Dystopian Debates / Dystopian Warm up activity
This activity includes up to 27 different topics / debates which can be seen over 27 lessons or accumulated into one week of debates. It also includes 4 different ways to use this resource!
This is one of my favourite activities to do during our dystopian lit unit as it involves all the students and encourages them to speak up about what they think but also challenge what they believe in. It encouraged students to see both sides of the argument, defend it but also to stay true to themselves.
The purpose of this activity is to make students interact with dystopian themes that they will see/have seen in the literature you will share in class.
I started the activity by asking my students what the purpose of dystopian literature is. They usually say something along the lines of “It is an imperfect world. It is to warn us of what the world could be based on current social and political events.” Then we list themes we have seen in the literature we have interacted with thus far. Then we start our activity!
